Urban exploration

Urban exploration refers to the process of visiting and photo documenting abandoned, obsolete and inaccessible buildings; often in locations that are off-limits.

Residential houses, tunnels, hospitals and factories are some examples of decaying buildings that were of great significance at their time of construction.

However, as people, time and regimes changed, so did the need for some of them. By being abandoned, they offer us a unique opportunity to go “back in time” and see how things were and how the world functioned before our time.

Walking through abandoned spaces expands one’s horizons and offers a new perspective of the modern world. It lets us relive fragments of lost history with a sense of adventure and curiosity and stand as final witnesses to structures going extinct, soon to be completely erased from existence.

  Gathering as much information as possible so as to ensure that the job is done as safely as possible, while ensuring the experience remains awesome. If you don’t want to get lost or eaten by bears, this is the part where most of the effort needs to go in.

  In cases where there is no information available, but something still looks like it should be explored, use the oldschool techinque of looking from a distance preferably with a pair of binoculars. Try not to look too suspicious while gathering information.

  A camera, a tripod and a bunch of flashlights is all that is needed. Since we frequently work in dark places with close to no light, we have the opportunity to dictate the lighting as we wish.

  From climbing and camping equipement to first aid kits and proper clothing and food, every percaution should be taken to assure a safe trip.
